NLRFUMC MISSIONS

NLRFUMC MISSIONS

The Missions Team at NLRFUMC is committed to helping our community and all of God's children.  Currently we are working on revamping our values and vision so that we can serve effectively.  Our Neighbor 2 Neighbor team is available to provide transportation to doctor's appointments, change lightbulbs, or pick up your groceries.  If you find yourself with a need, reach out!  Our Indian Hills Food ministry team is hard at work collecting food each week for children at Indian Hills Elementary School.  We are always taking donations of non-perishable food items!

Want to help?  Need help?  Contact Missions Chair, Rita Newman at rnewman1010@comcast.net.

Students in need at Indian Hills Elementary receive a backpack full of food on Friday to have over the weekend. This ministry consists of packing bags, delivering the bags, organizing food after donations are received and purchasing items that pantry is low on. This is an ongoing missions but with two major drives a year. If you would like to donate non-perishable items, you can do so at any time and just drop them off in the designated box in our church building. Thank you!

The Crisis in Ukraine and how we can help:

Dear NLRFUMC family,

Right now, we are all aware of the unfolding crisis in Ukraine over the last month.  Millions of refugees are fleeing their homes, leaving behind all that they own, while deeply grieving the loss of loved ones and their country. However, as you know, we are known as a church of action in ministry.

We are called by God to do His work and to care for His people.  John Wesley wrote, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
Here are two ways you can help RIGHT NOW:

1: Donate to UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recover. 100% of your money goes to the Ukrainian effort. Go to this website: https://umcmission.org/advance-project/982450/  to donate and to find out more.
United Methodist Committee on Relief response:
“UMCOR is in direct conversation with Methodist leadership in Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. United Methodist churches in these countries are already assisting internally displaced people (IDP) and refugees within and from Ukraine with food, water, shelter and other needs. UMCOR has approved grants that will immediately strengthen these efforts.”

2: Pray. We also stand with Ukraine in prayer. We pray with the people of Ukraine and all those affected by this campaign of war. Read and say this prayer by Bishop Khegay who published this prayer for peace:
“Lord we know that it shouldn't be. People should not bear death. People should not be killed. People should not lose their loved ones on the battlefields. Cities and villages should not be turned into a war zone, children should not be victims, and war should not be a means to achieve peace.

“Lord, we need a new heaven and a new earth. We remember the world that You gave us, and mourn that we have lost it.
“We all want to be safe but our security is not in force. Spare us the ravages of war. Teach us the ways of peace. Amen.”
While we may be so far removed from this country and its crisis, we CAN help and we CAN make a difference. If you have any problems donating or have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to reach out to Pastor Sara or Pastor Annie either by email or by calling the church office (church info here, etc.)

Peace be with you.
