NLRFUMC Announcements:

Picture

Friends,

I have received news from the Appointive Cabinet of the Bishop's intention to appoint Rev. Annie Lankford to be the next Lead Pastor of Farmington UMC effective July 1, 2022. As United Methodists, we know that itinerant ministry is part of our shared church life. I give thanks for Pastor Annie's ministry with us all at NLRFUMC, and I look forward to sending her forth with our blessing in the coming months. This appointment is a tremendous opportunity for Pastor Annie as she follows God's call upon her life, and I ask that we hold her and her family in our prayers during this time of transition.

As Senior Pastor, I want to thank Pastor Annie for her continued work in ministry over the last three years. I would also like to share a word of thanks to the NLRFUMC congregation for continuing to be a place that shapes and forms pastors for ordained ministry. In the few short months I have been Senior Pastor of this incredible church, I continue to be amazed that for decades, NLRFUMC has been a fertile ground for those discerning a call to ministry in the United Methodist Church. I give thanks for the strong faith of NLRFUMC that bears fruit not only in our community, but across the connection of Arkansas United Methodist Churches. Also, I want you to know that in the coming weeks, I will be working with our church leadership, as well as our District Superintendent, to discern the next qualities of our incoming associate pastor.

Thank you for your prayers for our church's ministry,

Pastor Sara Bayles Charlton

A special note from Pastor Annie:

It is with a mixture of feelings that I share the news that the Bishop has appointed me to be the new pastor for Farmington United Methodist Church. The past three years as your associate pastor have brought me so much joy. Your kindness, passion for ministry and devotion to Jesus Christ have kept all of us moving forward, despite this crazy pandemic. I have been truly blessed to get to know each of you, to love you and to be your friend. My last Sunday will be June 26. My family will be moving to Farmington on the 29th of June. Please keep all of us in your prayers during this transition, as I keep you in mine. Thank you NLRFUMC for welcoming me and my family into this special church family. I am grateful and wish God's best for you in the days ahead. We will have the next few months to continue our ministry and say our farewells, but most importantly, know that I am proud to have served NLRFUMC and it has been a joy to be part of this amazing church.

Love & Blessings,

Pastor Annie Lankford

The Ukraine Crisis

Dear North Little Rock First United Methodist Church family,

Right now, we are all aware of the unfolding crisis in Ukraine over the last 20 days. Millions of refugees are fleeing their homes, leaving behind all that they own, while deeply grieving the loss of loved ones and their country. However, as you know, we are known as a church of action in ministry.

We are called by God to do His work and to care for His people. John Wesley wrote, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

Here are two ways you can help RIGHT NOW:

1: Donate to UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recover. 100% of your money goes to the Ukrainian effort. Go to this website: https://umcmission.org/advance-project/982450/ to donate and to find out more.

United Methodist Committee on Relief response:
“UMCOR is in direct conversation with Methodist leadership in Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. United Methodist churches in these countries are already assisting internally displaced people (IDP) and refugees within and from Ukraine with food, water, shelter and other needs. UMCOR has approved grants that will immediately strengthen these efforts.”

2: Pray. We also stand with Ukraine in prayer. We pray with the people of Ukraine and all those affected by this campaign of war. Read and say this prayer by Bishop Khegay who published this prayer for peace:

“Lord we know that it shouldn't be.
People should not bear death.
People should not be killed.
People should not lose their loved ones on the battlefields.
Cities and villages should not be turned into a war zone,
children should not be victims,
and war should not be a means to achieve peace.
Lord, we need a new heaven and a new earth.
We remember the world that You gave us, and mourn that we have lost it.
We all want to be safe but our security is not in force.
Spare us the ravages of war.
Teach us the ways of peace. Amen.”

While we may be so far removed from this country and its crisis, we CAN help and we CAN make a difference. If you have any problems donating or have any questions regarding this process, please feel free to reach out to by email to Pastor Sara or Pastor Annie or by calling the church office.

Peace be with you.
