Radical Mission

Radical Mission is seen as evidence of a committed, active and involved Church.

We have often been asked “why do we go to Mexico when there is so much work to be done here“?  My stock answer is because we have people who are willing to go and they have people in need.  In 2011 we increased our local mission effort to the point that Mexico is only a small part of our outreach with a greater emphasis on local mission.

We gathered 167 sacks of food and donated it to Rice Depot and Gardner Memorial Methodist Church for distribution to those in need.  We have been gathering School Kits,
Layette Kits, Cleaning Buckets and Health Kits (Click on the specific name to see required items), many of these kits/buckets will be used in our area for those affected by recent flooding and tornadoes.

Almost 50 of you participated in a volunteer day at Arkansas Rice Depot, which distributes food items free of charge to food pantries all over the state.  Click Here for a short video of the fun church members had helping Arkansas Rice Depot personnel.

We have responded with volunteers to help clean up and cut trees and limbs after the Vilonia tornado.
The Mission Team is developing a list of those wishing to take part in future disaster response efforts.  If you have an interest in this type of service please give your name, email address and/or telephone number to the church office or to Allen Gaulding.   When a disaster response is warranted we will contact each name on the list to see if they are interested in participating.

We have participated in the United Methodist Church of  Arkansas’ Volunteer in Mission Program called “This Olde Church” where we helped paint another Methodist Church in our area.

Our “The Broadway Bridge Project”, in which 17 local churches currently participate.  We will be preparing food and serving it to approximately 75-125 homeless and needy in the downtown area.  We will be doing this one day a month.  Argenta UMC is already participating in this program.  More volunteers are needed.  Please contact a Mission Team member to learn more about this program or to volunteer.  This program will cost approximately $240 a month.  We have already received pledge commitments from several Sunday School classes and would encourage other classes and small groups to do so.

Many of you are participating in mission efforts through UMW or other small  groups, but if you are not, we challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and get involved with radical mission.  It will change your life just as it changes the lives of those we help.
In 2012 we are launching 2 new mission programs: a more formal Disaster Response Team and an Indian Hills Elementary reading assistance program/men of the church daily student greeter program.  For more information regarding these activities or to participate contact any team member.
