What is an endowment? An endowment is a gift of money or property, donated to FUMC, with the stipulation that it be invested, and that the principal remain intact in perpetuity or for a defined time period. Only the income generated from the gift is used for the stated purpose of the giver/endowment fund.
The following FUMC endowment funds have been established and said funds invested.Gifts/contributions of any size, may be added to any of the funds listed below:
1) MISSIONS (in and beyond the local community)
2) BUILDING (for maintenance and construction of physical facilities)
3) COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS (for a graduating high school female active in FUMC)
4) COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS (for a graduating high school male active in FUMC)
5) COMMUNITY MINISTRIES (helping local individuals)
6) SENIOR ADULT MINISTRIES (supports various senior adult programs)
The Trustees oversee the use of income from the Building Endowment Fund.Over the years these funds have paid for new heating and air conditioning units, parking lot improvements, and other types of facility needs.
The Endowment Committee is responsible for approving/spending the income from the Missions, College Scholarships, Community Ministries and Senior Adult Ministries Endowment Funds.
Gifts, of any size, can be added to the above endowment funds.
An endowment fund for a purpose other than above may be created, subject to approval of the Endowment Committee.
An individual or a group may establish an endowment fund. Also, individuals or groups may combine gifts to create an endowment.
Do you have an idea? One thought - funds are presently being sought to add a children’s library to our existing library. Once the children’s library is achieved it will need funds for ongoing operations. Maybe your gift could assure the library adequate operating funds to maintain current material for our children.
Memorial and honorarium gifts may be given to anendowment fund. An example might be - if grandparents gave a financial gift on the birthday of their grandchildren, a sizable amount could be generated in short order. Or maybe when a child is baptized in our church, the parents or grandparents might offer a gift to support one of the FUMC endowments.
If you have thoughts about needs and solutions, contact a member of your Endowment Committee or staff member Connie Toland or Paul Lasseigne.
Under the guidance of the Endowment Committee all FUMC Endowment Funds are invested through the United Methodist Foundation of Arkansas. The Foundation makes an effort to invest in funds, institutions, and companies which are making or which are expected to make a positive contribution toward the realization of the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church.
