Adult Ministries (Opportunities)

Wednesday night Chapel Service, 6:30 pm

This 45 minute laity-led service of worship includes prayer time, congregational singing, special music, short homily, and communion.

Whether you are just stopping by after Wednesday night supper, dropping children off for activities, or need a respite from your busy week, this service will uplift you in a very personal way.  Additionally, you will be lending your voice to the special mission of this service to be in prayer for our church, its members and pastors, especially those with special needs,  and for our community concerns.

Worship in our beautiful historic chapel is a joy of its own, especially in early evening when the back-lit stained glass windows and Charlotte’s special music call us to worship.  But perhaps an even greater joy is the intimate fellowship Chapel provides; it truly is a place where everybody will know your name, and more importantly, you feel God knows your name!

Please plan to join us, and bring a friend.

MEXICO BOUND!

Rio Bravo Mission Trip 2010:  We will be working October 18 through October 21 (Monday through Thursday).  This is the same schedule (arrive on Sunday and depart on Friday) used the last two trips.

PASSPORTS are required!

If you are interested in making this 2010 trip please contact Steven Strode strodestevenw@comcast.net or the church office 835-2201.

Each year our medical teams treat several hundred patients through the local clinic and several houses are constructed for needy families.  Our teams have included college students, ministers, doctors, nurses, teachers, CPA's, librarians, and a graphic artist. The teams have mixed cement; colored pictures with children, counted pills, lifted cement blocks, dispensed toys, and prayed in English and were prayed for in Spanish.  Join us in an adventure of faith that is guaranteed to change your life!

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Biblical historians believe that during the days of the apostles, pieces of their clothing were made into shawls or mantles to help cure illness and bring comfort to the sick. Today the Prayer Shawl Ministry at NLR-FUMC is a ministry of handiwork prayerfully enveloping God’s commission of love to others. A three-stitch seed pattern (knit 3, purl 3) representing the Trinity creates a shawl of hope, love, happiness, peace, healing and emotional comfort not only for the knitters but also for the persons receiving the beautiful blessed shawls. While the needles click, the knitters are enjoying hours of meditative, prayerful knitting while their hands knit blessings into the prayer shawls.  Some of these shawls are presented to parents upon the baptism of their infants.  Others are presented to members facing times of extreme medical hardship.

Transportation Ministries

Another of the essential services provided for our church fellowship is called the transportation ministry. A group of volunteer drivers provides transportation to and from Sunday church services and other fellowship-related and sponsored events. This dedicated group of about 20 drivers, on a rotating schedule, pick up members and other folks wishing to attend our church from the North Little Rock, Sherwood and Little Rock areas. These transportation needs are provided using a 14 passenger mini-bus and a 30 passenger bus. In addition to Sunday transportation all of the vehicles are also used on retreats, mission trips and other special church-sponsored events. Our ministry’s goal is to provide every church member the opportunity to attend all church services and special events with transportation provided as needed.

Walter's Seekers Class:

Seekers 2009

Lively discussions punctuated by lots of laughter rings from the parlor out of a circle of friends known as "Walter's Seekers Sunday School Class".

Marj Hohnbaum teaches this group of interactive adults who study and discuss various current books and topics of interest to people practicing the Christian faith.  One Sunday every other month, Joanna Willson and Joanie Tiefel lead the group.  Doris and Otto Thiemann read the scripture.

As we discuss lessons, some class members share a lot of their thoughts.  Others hardly ever (if ever) speak up.  A member can do either without any pressure.  Whether verbal or quiet, each member is a valued, welcomed and loved member of this family.  We agree, we disagree and we all still love and respect each other.

Through our Open door, you'll find Open hearts and Open minds. We come to grow as Christians practicing this great faith.
